EAGER shoppers queued outside popular clothes store Peacocks this morning as it opened its very first Cirencester shop.

The fashion retailer, based at the new Cirencester Retail Park, promised to give the first 20 customers a golden ticket worth £30 to spend in store today.

Friends Chris James and Lynda Preston were the first to queue up before 9am so they could get their hands on a ticket. They both said it was nice to have a wider choice of clothes stores in the area.

Douglas Sinton was also in line and said he thought the new store was a great idea. He said the only suitable men's clothes store for him in Cirencester was R Scott and Co menswear, but that he often found it expensive.

"There is lots more scope here, " he said. "It's going to help a lot."

Peacocks divisional manager Stephanie Williams said she was very excited to be in Cirencester.

"We have shops in the surrounding area but it is great to bring Peacocks to Cirencester," she said. "It's quality and value for the whole family; just what the town needs."

Despite a delay in opening due to a power cut, customers seemed to have no complaints on the day and the store was busy with shoppers even early in the morning.

Nearly all the stores in the retail park, on Bridge Road, are open with Pets at Home, Dominos Pizza and Home Bargains due to open by the end of the month.

The 99p Store was the first to open in October with KFC and Sports Direct following after.
