A CAKE decorator in Cirencester has taken home an international gold award for her chocolate sculpture of a warrior giant.

Aggy Dadan, of Cotswolds Finest Cakes, is well known for her impressive edible sculptures. But now her fiancé Andrew Pole has even picked up a few of her tips and tricks and came away from the same competition with a bronze award.

Aggy has entered many cake decorating competitions during the last few years and has collected two gold and two silver awards.

At the most recent show at the NEC in Birmingham, she picked up gold in the 'decorative exhibit' category for her chocolate sculpture of a warrior giant, complete with tattoos and piercings.

The cake decorator said she was really happy to win the award but that she still had her sights on the 'best in show' prize.

"I hope the advice from the judges will help me create something incredible and worthy of winning the top prize," she said.

Aggy's warrior cake took about 10 days and has a metal skeleton inside. The skeleton was covered in white chocolate and carefully sculpted before being hand painted and airbrushed.

And it was not just Aggy picking up the awards this year. Her fiancé Andrew, who helps run Cotswolds Finest Cakes, tried his hand at decorating too and was overjoyed to be awarded bronze in the 'sculpted novelty' category. He created a sunken treasure chest using only cake and fondant icing, meaning the whole piece was fully edible.

After speaking with the judges, he even discovered that with a few small changes his cake could have been judged silver.

"I am really happy to win a bronze with my first competition cake, but after speaking to the judges I now want to go straight for gold for my next cake," said Andrew.

Aggy is well known for creating a lifelike sculpture of Diagon Alley, the famous magical street in the Harry Potter films, as well as a three-foot-tall hare cake, made specially for the Cirencester March Hare Festival.

The couple are hosting a range of Christmas cake courses in Cirencester for this festive season. Limited places are available so those interested are advised to book early. Visit cotswoldsfinestcakes.com for more.
