VOLUNTEERS from environmental charity Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) are hoping to beat last year’s tree-mendous record by planting 2,000 saplings.
Last year volunteers, schools and companies helped plant 1,700 trees mostly in Stratford Park.
In recognition of all the work done in the park, SVP project officer Richard Lewis has been awarded the Stroud in Bloom biodiversity cup for achievement.
Mike McCrea, from the Landscape Group which is responsible for delivering Stroud District Council’s 10 year biodiversity action plan in the park, said: “Richard has worked very hard co-ordinating and organising volunteers to do the tree planting which has made a big difference to the biodiversity in the park.”
This year Richard and his volunteers will be creating woodland edge, planting an area of copse at Stratford Park as well as planting trees in local parishes around the district.
