MEETINGS are being held today to seek consideration and approval of the district council's Local Plan document which sets out proposed future development in the district and improvements to parking in the district.

At 4pm in the Council Chamber, Trinity Road, Cirencester the district council's Cabinet committee will examine the draft Local Plan document, which details development strategy, proposed site allocations, strategic policies and introductory chapters.

Included in the Local Plan are proposals to build thousands of homes in the Chesterton area of Cirencester.

Originally 2500 homes were planned for Chesterton, however, the document being presented at the meeting sets out a number of 2,350.The reasons behind the change in the number of homes will be explained at the meeting.

The meeting will pave the way for a will be a six-week public consultation on the Local Plan that is set to take place in January and February 2015.

As well as the Local Plan being discussed, an update will by given on council plans to have residual and recyclable waste collected from all primary schools in the district, as part of domestic collections.

At 12.30pm, at the same location, the Cabinet will consider a range of further improvements to the car parking services across the district.

Among the proposals being discussed is one to remove overnight parking charges at the Brewery Car Park, Cirencester and to introduce a £2 all day tariff at the car parks in Old Market Way, Moreton-in-Marsh and West Street, Tetbury.

If approved, the changes will come into effect on 1 March 2015.
