TV STAR Ellie Harrison has been appointed the new President of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust (GWT).

In her first act as President, Ellie, who works as one of the BBC Countryfile presenters, teamed up with pupils from Sapperton School today to launch a new campaign called My Wild Christmas.

Ellie, who lives in the Stroud Valleys, teamed up with the children at GWT’s Siccaridge Wood Nature Reserve, near Cirencester, to launch the campaign.

Together with GWT staff, Ellie and the pupils made the green Christmas wreaths that feature in the My Wild Christmas guide as a great family-friendly wildlife activity.

GWT Chairman Francis Rundall said: “We are delighted that Ellie has accepted our invitation to join Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust as our President.

"Ellie is a tremendous communicator about the natural world and is passionate about the Gloucestershire countryside and its wildlife. We look forward to harnessing her energy and enthusiasm for the Trust.”

Ellie said: "I love this county - the hills of Gloucestershire are the landscape in my heart and my mind's eye wherever I roam - so I am extremely pleased and full of delight to be the new president of the GWT."

My Wild Christmas is sponsored by waste management and environmental services supplier Grundon, based in Bishops Cleeve, near Cheltenham.

The Trust wants people to download the free guide and be inspired to make changes to their everyday lives.
