A TOTAL of four licensed premises around Cirencester have failed a police test, by selling young people alcohol.

Gloucestershire Police officers made test purchases of alcohol at three premises in Cirencester and one in South Cerney, but all places failed the test.

A young person, accompanied by an officer in plain clothes, attempted to buy alcohol in all the four places and was sold it. He was not asked his age nor for ID, which he would have truthfull given if he had been asked.

Members of staff at each premises were required to pay £90 penalties.

A police spokesman said: "In view of this disappointing result, the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, with members of Cotswold District Council Licensing Authority, will be running a similar operation in due course."
