RUMOURS that RAF Fairford will be reactivated in 2015 are flying through the local community and online, but officials claim they have no information at the moment.
RAF Fairford is currently maintained in a ready, 'warm status' by a civilian workforce who are responsible for all daily tasks and contingency preparations. The main mission of the base is to be ready to receive aircraft with 48 hours notice.
If it was reactivated, it could mean the base would be a permanent home for aircraft.
Keen aviation fans discussed the rumours on the online forum fightercontrol.co.uk but details have yet to be confirmed by staff at the base.
A spokesman for RAF Fairford said: "There are no aircraft permanently stationed at RAF Fairford, and the main mission of the base is to be ready to receive a deployment of aircraft and personnel with 48 hours' notice, both for real-world scenarios and for training exercises.
"We have no information at the moment to say that RAF Fairford will be reactivated next year."
