WILTSHIRE police are appealing for information following an assault on a Police Community Support Officer in Swindon town centre.

The incident took place at around 3.15pm on Friday, December 5 on Havelock Square.

A PCSO was assaulted by a man during the course of her duties. Whilst trying to restrain the man, another Police Constable and Security Officer was also assaulted.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.

The PCSO was taken to hospital but was later released.

Superintendent Gavin Williams said: "This was a nasty, unprovoked attack on a PCSO who was carrying out her normal duties in Swindon Town Centre.

"Fortunately, she only suffered minor injuries however any attack on a member of police staff is totally unacceptable and the person responsible will be dealt with accordingly."
