THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised by Cirencester Golf Club for deaf children in the town.

Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) was delighted to hear the golf club had raised more than £2,200 for the Cirencester Deaf Children's Club (CDCC).

Paula Lester Powell, the ladies captain for the club, contacted the charity back in November 2013 to invite GDA to be their benefitting charity for 2014.

Along with the help of a team of fundraisers, Paula organised a variety of events to make up the total of £2,231.

The money raised has already enabled CDCC to enjoy a day out at Giffords Circus in September and the remaining funds will allow the club to organise more fun activities throughout the coming year.

Chief executive of GDA Jenny Hopkins said she could not thank the golf club enough for their hard work.

"It has been a real pleasure to welcome Paula to CDCC at various times and especially to invite her along to our Gifford Circus outing in September," she said. "This was only made possible by the money that had been raised and I know she was moved by seeing the delight on the children's faces there."
