AVON and Somerset Police are appealing for the public’s help to find two absconders from HMP Leyhill in South Gloucestershire.

The two men Marcus McAlpine and Stephen Gurney went missing on Sunday afternoon.

They were last seen at about 4.45pm and failed to appear for the 8.30pm roll call.

It is thought they absconded together but it is possible they may have now split up.

We have received information that the two men were seen walking through North Nibley this morning heading towards Cam via Stinchcombe.

Stephen Gurney, aged 43, was serving an indeterminate prison sentence for armed robbery. He is described as white male, 5ft 8ins tall, of average build with 21 tattoos over body and legs. He is originally from Chelsea, London.

Marcus McAlpine, also aged 43, was serving an indeterminate prison sentence for an assault. He is described as a white male, 6ft 1ins tall, of average build with a tribal tattoo left arm. He is originally from Lewisham.

We would like members of the public who spot both or either of the men, to contact us via the 999 emergency number.

We would advise anyone spotting the men not to approach them but call us immediately.
