FRIENDS, neighbours and guests celebrated Christmas in Stratton, Cirencester on the weekend, as residents pulled together to hold their own alternative lights switch-on.

Throughout the last 12 years The Vale Road Lights in Stratton has become a Christmas tradition and this year's event proved to be even more special.

The event boasted a magical Victorian village which took12 years to create. It was collected and put together by husband and wife Pauline and Robin Sollis.

"It took us four months to set up," said Pauline. "It fills two thirds of our garage and has marching bands, ice rinks, ski slopes, fun fairs and more."

Visitors enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies on Saturday evening, while waiting for the festive lights to switch on at 6pm. Each house on Vale Road decorates their house for the occasion.

The Victorian Village is open every late afternoon to view until the New Year. There is a small charge of £1.50 per adult to visit the village. All proceeds go directly to charity.

For 2014 the Willow Trust charity, Guide Dogs for The Blind, Air Ambulance and Stratton Pre-School have all been chosen to benefit from funds raised.
