MINDLESS vandals smashed windows at charity shop Age Concern and WH Smith in Cirencester over the weekend.

The culprits caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage after targeting the two premises, both in Castle Street, on Sunday night.

Vanessa Woodvine, manager of the Cirencester branch of Age UK, described the culprits as “lowlife”.

“It makes me so angry,” Miss Woodvine said.

“We’re a charity so replacing a window, which could cost up to £500, will have a huge impact on us.”

Age UK has been in the town for more than 20 years and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the elderly in the Cirencester area.

Asked what her message to the vandals would be, Miss Woodvine replied: “They’re lowlifes who need to take a look at themselves. They’re all going to get old one day. When they do, how will they feel about this?”

Miss Woodvine, 52, was told by a police officer on Monday that two men had been arrested in connection with the incidents.

But when the Standard contacted Gloucestershire Police there was no record of any arrest on their system.

A police spokesman said: “No one has been arrested or charged but the investigation continues.”

A number of other shops in the town centre – including Caffe Nero and Tesco have also had their windows smashed in recent weeks.
