A WEDDING cake tree which was planted to honour the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has been stolen.

The six foot Cornus Controversa Variegata was planted in 2011 in Tetbury by the Duchess of Cornwall to mark the wedding of the young couple.

The thief uprooted the tree from the churchyard of the parish church of St Mary the Virgin and St Mary Magdalen on Church Street, at some point between 21 – 28 November.

The tree belongs to Tetbury Town Council and Gloucestershire Police is asking for anyone who might have information about the theft to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 99 of 5 December.
