COACH driver Robert Blakemore, who was behind the wheel when he crashed with more than 50 people onboard, will appear in court today.

Blakemore has been charged with careless driving and will appear at Stroud Magistrates’ Court following the M5 crash.

More than 50 adults and children were aboard the coach taking them for a day out at the seaside when it overturned in a ditch on the M5.

The vehicle, packed with families including about 25 youngsters, were on the trip organised by the charity Action for Children when it left the road at Junction 13 on the southbound carriageway on August 19.

Two air ambulances, 10 ambulances and three fire engines attended the crash but only six people, including a child, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital by road.
