STROUD MP Neil Carmichael says he is 'disappointed' with Eric Pickles decision to allow a £500 million incinerator to be built at Javelin Park.

“I am naturally disappointed with this decision.

"I have objected to this application at all stages, when it was rejected by Gloucestershire County Council’s own planning committee, my subsequent evidence to the Planning Inspectors Inquiry and written representations to the Secretary of State.

"For me this was not about the technology but the potential design, visual impact and massing is I believe inappropriate for this site neighbouring an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

"Whilst it is of course open for campaigners to consider a judicial review I would hope that Urbaser Balfour Beatty as applicant would now engage in a meaningful way with community groups and stakeholders to ensure that what are still considerable concerns about the height and design of the facility could be mitigated as they progress with developing the facility.

"I would hope, in the interests of the whole community, that the cross party county council’s working party on waste could facilitate a meaningful dialogue to take this forward.”
