A NEW development at the Fortey House site in Northleach needs a new street name, and residents have been asked to put forward their own suggestions.

The abandoned house, which used to be a residential home for the elderly, has been standing empty for four years and residents were delighted when Bromford Housing Association put forward plans to demolish the building and build 22 affordable homes in its place.

Now the street where the development will be based, called Fortey Road, needs a new name but the developer has not put forward any suggestions.

Cotswold District Council asked the Northleach community for their suggestions and a shortlist of names, each with a local connection, has been compiled.

Potential names include Bradley Close, after James Bradley who went to school in Northleach and was the first to provide proof of the Earth's rotation around the sun, Spinners Close, to reflect Northleach's heritage as a wool town, and Bicknell Close, after William Bicknell, a wool merchant.

The most popular names are being put forward to the council and will be revealed in the near future.
