IN 1984 Irene Gilchrist and a group of parents set up Cotswold Gymnastics Club.

Since then the club has continually grown year on year and it now boasts over 350 members of all abilities and ages.

Irene, who handed over the reins of the club 20 years ago, was invited back last month for an 80s themed gymnastics extravaganza, held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the club at Cirencester Deer Park School .

At the event Irene was handed flowers, before the whole club sang Happy Birthday.

The clubs gymnasts, from the under fives to the senior squads, performed in front of over 800 spectators at the event.

A spokeswoman for the club, Sally Woodley explained that they were very pleased to welcome Irene back for the display to see how the club has grown in numbers and capability over the years.

She said: “The whole day was an amazing success, with all the club's gymnasts taking part and demonstrating.

"The club is looking forward to the next 30 years and is still looking for funding and a location to occupy its own fully-fitted premises. Happy 30th Birthday Cotswold Gymnastics Club.”
