POLICE had to be called to a computer shop in Cirencester to intervene in an argument between the owner and a customer.

Will Rittman, 27, opened Rock Steady Computers at The Waterloo in July last year and since then has built up a steady following, with around 100 customers a month so far.

But he says he has been left shaken after a dispute with a family who bought a laptop and then demanded a refund for the computer.

Gloucestershire police sent officers to the shop last week after Will raised the alarm because he "didn't feel safe" when confronted.

However, it is understood that the family dispute Will's account of what happened and have reported him to Trading Standards.

Will told the Standard that the saga began in November when a family came to the store to buy a laptop.

“The mother, having looked at the laptop, walked out of the shop happy,” said Will.

“But three days later they said it was the wrong specification and demanded I give them a refund.”

Will said he agreed to the refund and showed the family evidence that the bank transfer had been requested, but they weren't happy.

“However, after that happened they said I wouldn’t get the laptop until they had the money in their bank, to which I disagreed with and stopped the transfer,” he said.

Since then, Will claims the family has repeatedly phoned him and turned up unannounced at the shop.

Will said that a male member of the family entered the store and refused to leave until he handed over cash for a refund.

“I didn’t feel safe anymore so I stated he had five seconds to leave the shop before I called the police,” said Will.

The family involved dispute Will's claims about the whole situation and insist that he is at fault, but did not wish to give a comment to the Standard

A spokesman for Gloucestershire police confirmed that officers were called to a dispute at Rock Stready Computers on the afternoon of January 7.

The spokesman said the officers would be speaking to the customer about the situation.
