Stonehouse History Group met for the first time in the new year at 7.30pm, Wednesday, January 14 in the town hall. Tony Conder returned to talk about Gloucestershire Railways from the Forest to the Cotswold. We welcome members and non members.

Join us for the next Cotswold AONB Warden’s Walk on Friday, January 16, for a four-hour walk starting at Prema Cafe in Uley. We will walk six miles to Downham Hill and Rook Wood. On Wednesday, January 21, meet at Hunters Hall Inn for a five-mile walk to Kingscote lasting three hours. All walks start at 10am. Are you interested in young people and their learning? Maidenhill is currently looking for new governors. Volunteers are currently needed for the local children's centres. Park, Parliament, Painswick and Five Ways Children’s Centre are all looking for volunteers to lead, plan and organise activities for a number of areas and activities. Stanley Singers has been established now for more than 30 years and is looking for more second sopranos. We rehearse on Monday evenings in the Stonehouse Baptist Church from 7.45pm to 9.15pm. Music is varied – from pop to classical and we don’t hold auditions although some ability to read music would be desirable. Hats for seamen – many people have been knitting hats and balaclavas for seamen which are sent off to the depot in Bristol. With the cold weather among us the hats are very much needed. If you would like to join in the efforts and knit for seamen, all hats and balaclavas can be left in Stonehouse Town Hall.

Stonehouse Library Baby Bounce and Rhyme and Bookstart Bear sessions are back from 10.30am until 11am every Wednesday during school term time. Bumper Jumble Sale organised by the Stroud Cats’ Protection.

A donation of cat food or 20p is the entrance fee to a bumper jumble sale being held in Stonehouse on Saturday, January 24 from10.30am to 12.30pm. Come along to the Scout Hut Old End Lane and recycle books, unwanted clothes, bric-a-brac and possibly unwanted Christmas presents. Donations can be dropped off at the Scout Hut on Friday, January 23 between 6.30pm and 8pm, on the morning of the sale after 9am or by calling Alison on 01453 823288 to arrange for items to be dropped off.

The Stroud Valleys Music Club next meet at St Joseph’s Church Hall, Stonehouse on Wednesday, January 28 at 7.30pm for a music presentation where members will play two records they would and two they would not take with them on a desert island.
