BUDDING young chefs from Tetbury’s Sir William Romney’s School have been proving that there is more to event catering than preparing sausage rolls and sandwiches.

In the past three months, students have created upmarket hospitality food for a wide variety of outside catering events, including careers fairs, a Tetbury Chamber of Commerce meeting and three local retirement homes.

“This has been an opportunity for our students to see how to cater for ‘real’ events as well as forge links with the local community,” said catering teacher Clare Jones.

“This interaction adds social skills to their curriculum.”

She adds: “I knew they were good, but these events have proven just how high a standard of skills they have achieved, catering for all tastes – from a la carte lunches to finger buffets and upmarket platters.

“We’ve taken them out of the classroom into a ‘real world’ environment. The students didn’t think they could do it and were overwhelmed by the positive feedback they received,”
