LOVE is in the air at pubs in the Cotswolds and north Wiltshire as a trio of landlords announced their recent engagements.

This month, three Arkell’s landlords announced they are getting engaged, not too soon after head brewer Alex Arkell got married himself.

This has prompted Arkell’s house controller Julie Moss to speculate that there must be “something in the beer.”

Stephen Newton and Hannah Soden run The King’s Arm’s in Malmesbury. Together two years, Stephen proposed to Hannah while they were enjoying a short break in Dublin.

He had planned on proposing when they were on holiday in Mexico last year, but then realised he had forgotten the ring.

Landlord at The Saracen’s Head in Highworth, near Lechlade, AJ is also marrying his long-term girlfriend Emma Peerun in Mauritius next year.

And finally, Summer Lancaster of the Riverside Inn, Lechlade, is marrying Paul Fitzgerald-Quilty after a whirlwind romance which started in September.

“We clicked immediately,” said Summer. “It’s wonderful. We’re having a big engagement party later this year, but the wedding probably won’t be for a while longer.”

Brewery director George Arkell said three engagements in the company was certainly a good way to kick start 2015.

He said: “There’s nothing better than wedding bells and we’re already looking forward to raising our glasses to some long and happy marriages.”
