TWO Stroud High School pupils held a fundraiser in Nailsworth to raise funds to travel to Malawi in July.
Rosie Duckworth from Nailsworth, and Charlotte Humphery from Stroud are volunteering with the Ministry of Hope, a feeding centre for children affected by HIV/AIDS. They are raising money by cycling 2,500 miles each, the distance to Malawi, during various events.
A fundraising evening was held at the Mark@Street restaurant in Nailsworth, where they served food and pedalled on a static bike. There was also a sweepstake guessing how far they would cycle, a quiz on Malawi and a raffle.
“We cycled more than 36 miles,” said Rosie. “It was hard work cycling and serving the food but well worth it as we raised over £550.”
The pair will be teaching English, helping with an anti-malaria campaign and interacting with children at the centre. Sponsor them by emailing cyclingtomalawi@gmail.com.
