MOTHER Jess Lewis is hoping to inspire other mums after shaving off her 2ft long dreadlocks.

The mother-of-two, who has been growing and dreading her hair for nearly five years, kick-started, Shanti Mama on Monday, inspired by her second child Jadu.

By shaving her head, Jess hopes to validate her statement that ‘mums should be seen’, highlighting the fact that mothers are the most important person in a new born’s environment.

“In today’s society we are not told what a great job we are doing, in fact we are brought to believe that we’re not doing much if we’re stay at home mums,” said Jess.

“I disagree. I believe that mums should be given a lot more credit for the day in day out trials and tribulations.”

Jess, who is also mother to Libby, eight, believes that mums should eat healthily for their children and plans to set up pop up groups to provide free samples of nutritious foods and smoothies.

She has accepted a £100 donation for her dreadlocks from a friend who plans to sew them into her own hair.

“I feel strongly that if all mamas knew their worth and were told regularly what a fantastic job they’re doing, combined with knowledge of nutritious foods, things like pre and post natal depression would plummet,” said Jess.
