ALMOST two years after losing all postal services in Painswick centre, villagers are now celebrating the opening of their new outreach Post Office.

But it’s not all good news, as councillors are still fighting for a postbox in the village centre.

Painswick has been without a Post Office since April 2013 and without a postbox since November 2013.

A new date is yet to be set for the outreach Post Office’s official opening, however residents have been assured they will have one by the end of February or early March.

It will be situated in Painswick Town hall and open Wednesday and Friday each week from 9.30am until 11.30am both days.

Parish clerk Roy Balgobin said: “Businesses and residents are affected without a wide-mouth postbox in Painswick because they aren’t able to send off any A4 letters.”

Since December 2013 the council have been in conversation with Stroud MP Neil Carmichael who has contacted Royal Mail for a new wide-mouth postbox in the village centre.

Mr Carmichael, said: “We have had positive news about the new outreach Post Office in Painswick and I am now hoping that we can hear good news about the postbox soon as well.

Mr Carmichael is expecting to hear back from Royal Mail on Tuesday, February 17.
