AFTER losing their baby during childbirth, Zara and Richard Kolasinska have found vital support through a charity – and now they are doing something special to say thank you.

Zara and Richard lost their daughter Ginger on November 5.

Zara, originally from Cricklade, said: “I was 40 weeks and four days overdue when our daughter died suddenly.

"I had a perfect pregnancy. We have no answers as to why she passed so suddenly except her cord was wrapped tightly around her feet when she was born, and this may have cut off her oxygen and blood supply suddenly."

Sands, which supports parents who have lost a child and funds research into preventing baby deaths, was a vital help for Zara and Richard.

The charity gave them a memory box for items which remind them of Ginger such as prints of her hands and feet.

They have also been attending monthly Sands meetings, which allow parents who have lost children through childbirth to support each other.

As a thank you to Sands, Zara and Richard are organising a vintage-themed event to raise money for the charity at Cricklade Town Hall in June.

Vintage items dealer Zara, 40, who now lives in Swindon with Richard, believes not enough is done to raise awareness of measures which can be taken to prevent stillbirths.

She said: "17 babies die every day in the UK and this number has not been reduced for many many years.

"Mothers are left to deliver their stillborn babies on normal delivery wards as was the case with me at Great Western Hospital in Swindon.”

The event in Cricklade will also raise cash for Kids Company, which provides support to vulnerable children and young people.
