HAIRDRESSER Grahame Everett is aiming to be a cut above after swapping his scissors for boxing gloves.

Grahame, who owns C2 hairdressers in Nailsworth, is stepping into the boxing ring to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing, the black tie evening will take place on April 5 at Hatherley Manor.

Entrance music and entertainment, such as fire eaters and ring girls, will bring the razzmattaz during the event.

“I’m a lover not a fighter, but Cancer Research is such a vital charity and I fancied the challenge,” said Grahame.

The Nailsworth scissor specialist has been supported by a raft of mane advocates and certainly dosen’t want to curl up and dye when he goes toe-to-toe with his boxing rival.

“I have been training hard for eight weeks and will be matched-up to someone of the same size and ability over three two minute rounds to decide the winner.”

To get into tip-top shape Grahame has been training at Forest Green gym and with John Pitman from the Fight Factory in Gloucester. He has also been helped by boxer turned actor Leigh Alliss and friend Richard Talbot.

Each boxer is required to set up a Justgiving Page and aim to raise at least £50 to be donated to Cancer Research UK, a charity which Ultra White Collar Boxing raised £560,000 for last year.

Robbie Owen, from Ultra White Collar Boxing, said: “The event is for people who have never boxed before and from all walks of life.

“They come out to music and do the big ring walk and then box in front of a live audience. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.”

Ultra White Collar Boxing began in Derby five years ago, and founder Jon Leonard has since taken the events to cities across the UK.

Ultra White Collar Boxing is hoping to raise £1million for Cancer Research to help fund a lab in Leicester.

Mr Owen said: “There is great camaraderie between the boxers who take part and they make new friends – there’s a lot more to the event than just throwing punches.

“People love it and they’ve come back time and time again. They all make an amazing difference to their lives and it improves you as a person. Boxing is a great way to get fit and improve mental sharpness.

“It’s also a fantastic way to raise money for Cancer Research. Cancer is something that affects a lot of people and Cancer Research is a charity covers a lot of bases.”
