CALLS have been made to bring a new medical facility to Tetbury.

Concerns were raised at Tetbury’s town council meeting that Romney House Surgery will not be able to cope with the influx of people brought by the new housing developments.

Current demand means that residents have had to wait up to five days for an appointment.

Stephen Hirst suggested that “satellite surgeries”, smaller practices dotted around town with just a few GPs each, could be introduced to Tetbury.

However, NHS England will not give money for a new facility until the houses have been built.

Cllr Colin Pearce said: “The town in general is in need of modernisation, but most of all we need a modern medical facility, especially with the developments coming to the town.”

Over the next few years around 700 homes will be built around Tetbury.

Romney House Surgery, on Long Street, became a charitable Trust in 1994, it’s run by a full-time manager and representatives of the town and district.
