WYCLIFFE student Angus Allen has created his own seat of learning – literally, out of the all the books he has read.

The year 13 student made the “literary” chair as part of his university application.

“The application asked for three pictures to show a stranger who I am as a person. I have always liked books and always liked reading,” said Angus.

The 17-year-old estimates he has read more than 300 books in his lifetime. He owes his passion for books from his parents who read to him as a child.

“The first book I remember my parents reading to me was Philip Pullman’s The Scarecrow Apprentice,” he said.

"I can't choose a favourite book, that would be like asking a parent to choose their favourite child,” he said. “I love them all but for different reasons.”

He also prefers printed books to reading on a tablet, he said: “I tried reading Games of Thrones on a tablet and it didn’t work. You don’t get the same sense of progress on a tablet as you do when you read a book.”

Angus is planning to follow his other passion for a career. He hopes to study video game development.
