PUPILS, staff and governors at Leonard Stanley Primary School are delighted with their latest Ofsted report, which rates the school as ‘good’.

The previous report,in January 2013, had stated that the school ‘required improvement’. On their latest visit, however, the inspectors gave ‘good’ ratings across the board.

They praised leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils, and early years provision.

Head teacher Ian Smith said: “We are delighted with the report and the many very positive comments made across all areas of school life.

“We are happy that it reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in working together to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils and that the school is run as an effective organisation.”

In their summary of key findings, the inspectors noted that:

  •  standards are well above average in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6
  •  teaching is consistently good in all parts of the school
  • school values and beliefs are important and support pupils’ understanding of right and wrong
  • the strong link between the pre-school Nursery and Reception class means that children’s needs are well understood, so that they benefit from appropriate support
  • parents, carers and staff are highly positive about the school and all it does for all pupils
  • and the headteacher, school leaders and governors all work together constantly to improve all aspects of the school’s work.

They continued: “Pupils’ participation in a wide range of competitive sports contributes successfully to their well-being and preparation for the next stage of their education”.

Mr Smith added: “The staff and governors will continue to strive for excellence in all that they do. so that the school will continue to provide the best possible care for the children that are entrusted to it.

“The staff, governors and pupils are excited about the way forward and the excellent platform that this report provides for continual school improvement as they strive to maintain and build upon the current good practices.”
