STROUD District Council leader Geoff Wheeler keeps you up to date with what is happening at the council

Wednesday, February 18 – Incinerator

GLOUCESTERSHIRE County Council held an extraordinary council meeting to debate the future of the incinerator project with a motion requesting that “the cabinet cancels the incinerator contract with immediate effect”.

The vote was a close one but the motion was defeated.

Just a few days earlier Stroud District Council launched a legal challenge to the planning inspector’s decision to approve the application.

We now await its outcome.

Wednesday, February 18 – Littlecombe update

COUNCIL officers and representatives from regeneration specialist St Modwen met with Cam Parish Council to provide an update on this major development project.

They covered various aspects of the project including feedback from the public.

The economic slowdown following the 2007 economic crash saw progress almost grind to a halt but the last few years really has seen the redevelopment pick up pace.

In recent weeks the remaining old Lister factories have all but been razed to the ground.

While it’s sad to reflect on the ending of an industrial heritage, the regeneration of the site is something to look forward to.

The Littlecombe project is an impressive example of what well-planned and designed regeneration can achieve.

Thursday, February 26 – Canal Board Meeting THE board overseeing the canal project will meet today to cover various aspects of the project.

The restoration continues to improve the canal corridor and in recent weeks many people have commented on how beautiful walks along the canal are on frosty mornings.

Look out for the interpretation panels on the towpath, including one outside Ebley Mill.

Thursday, February 26 – Council Meeting, Ebley Mill, 7pm

THIS meeting will finalise council tax bills for the district’s residents for the year ahead.
