ST ROSE'S School in Stroud has been forced to close its main teaching building in the middle of an OFSTED inspection after an electrical fault left it without any electricity or heating.

The power supply to the school for children with severe disabilities and complex health needs was cut off at 11am yesterday morning.

An engineer was immediately called to the school and identified a fault to the main power supply into the building.

The school’s headteacher Jan Danies said: “We immediately put our emergency plan into action.

“Some classes are still running normally and some students are being cared for at home.

“We have also been about to continue with an OFSTED inspection despite the challenging circumstances.

“Our staff, children, young people and their parents have worked seamlessly to ensure everyone’s safety, which has been our main priority.”

The disruption left the school without phone, computer, and email access, and no heating in the main school building.

The school’s over-19s centre St Martin’s was unaffected by the power fault so classes are running as normal.

It is hoped engineers will be able to fix the issue by Monday, March 9.
