THE new location for Tetbury’s Classic Car Show will cause “bedlam”, according to residents.

Last year the show was held on the recreation ground but has been re-located to the Sir William Romney School playing fields.

Residents in the area have expressed concerns about the volume of traffic that will come through the area on the day.

The road into the fields is through a residential area that narrows into a single track.

Colin Pearce said: “They are not thinking what is going to happening; they are not thinking how they are going to get up to that area – it just won’t work.

“With that many cars down such a small road it could be dangerous, everyone is up in arms about it.”

Organisers chose the school as a location to avoid moving the show outside of Tetbury.

Chairman of the show John Bevan, said: “We have outgrown the available space at the recreation ground for exhibitors and other attractions and there has never been enough space for visitor’s cars or for disabled parking.

“By moving to Sir William Romney’s School much more visitor and disabled parking becomes available in the school car park and field and we are sure this will mean fewer parking issues in surrounding streets than has been the case in the last two years.”

As a “gesture of goodwill” organisers will be giving out free family tickets to the residents of Lowfield Road.

Colin Pearce has been a keen advocate of a route linking London Road to the B4104 via William Romney School which would relieve pressure on the road to school and take traffic away from the high street.

Last year the Tetbury Classic Car Show raised £8,500 for charity including £3,750 for Stroud based disability charity ALLSORTS.

Tetbury Classic Car Show will take place Sunday, September 6, at Sir William Romney School.
