PLANS to create 22 homes in Fairford have been rejected by councillors who said that affordable homes were not evenly distributed across the site proposed for building the properties.

Applicants Spitfire Properties wish to build the homes, a mix of open market and affordable properties on a site split into two sections on the south west of Saxon Way.

In the plans Spitfire presented  ten affordable homes which were clustered together at the southern section of the site.

Emma Evans, planning manager at Spitfire Properties said at the meeting that the developer had worked hard with housing association Bromford to deliver a high quality scheme.

But Rodney Hooper said that there was a disproportionate amount of homes in the northern section of the site and proposed that the plans were rejected and other councillors agreed.

He said: “There is a lack of affordable houses across the road and it needs to be looked at as a whole new site.”

Margaret Rickman said: “It is no good saying that Bromford are happy with this. I say we refuse it to show that we want social and affordable houses positioned.”
