THE company that runs the Cotswold Country Park and Beach was sentenced for health and safety breaches at Gloucester Crown Court today following the death of a teenager.

WM Active were given a £90,000 fine and ordered to pay £150,000 of costs to Cotswold District Council.

Kajil Devi, who was 15 and could not swim, drowned as she was playing with friends at the attraction in 2010.

In July WM Active admitted to charges brought against it by Cotswold District Council for failing to ensure the health and safety of the public at the attraction.

Kajil Devi, of Feltham, Middlesex, was playing in the water with three of her cousins when she slipped under the surface.

They were playing with an inflatable dingy at the time and did not notice her disappear.

About 20 minutes later it was not clear to her cousins where Kajil was and so a search was started by her family members.

She was then found by holidaymaker, Nathan Stroud who pulled her lifeless body onto the beach.

Lifeguards and bystanders tried to resuscitate her, before paramedics arrived and took over.

She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead the following day.
