SATURDAY’S market falls on the spring equinox this year and thus we will truly be on the threshold of the winter/spring doorway.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been caught out by the evening times in recent days being surprised it is so late and still light.

Ah what joy. It was even getting a bit light when we started setting up the market last week.

We have a great market for you, dear customers, with over 50 stalls selling the usual great range of produce. Returning from absence we will have About Soup with their range of quality handmade soups – available chilled to take home and hot to enjoy at the market.

We also have Kin Juicery with a range of vegetable and fruit juices and chia balls, bursting with healthiness.

VQ country wines will also be here. They make a huge range of fruit, flower and vegetable wines throughout the year in small batches with natural unsprayed produce from the farm in Longhope, so their range changes through the seasons.

Over Farm returns with purple sprouting and the first rhubarb of the season (it’s definitely spring).

Tortworth Plant Nursery will be here with seasonal plants for the garden.

Severn Spots with bring Gloucester Old Spot hams, salamis and other cured products.

Bath Soft Cheese will have their range (Wyfe of Bath is my favourite because it’s like a Dutch edam).

Other favourites include David’s Chilli Oils, the Potted Game Co, Julian Harvard flowers, Lishkins preserves and all the regulars.

For entertainments we have local Stroud morris side Styx dancing at 11.30am with special invited guests, which is not to be missed.

Why not sign up for the seasonal Stroud farmers market newsletter, the latest issue of which will be published soon?

It is packed with interesting articles, chef’s recipes and lots more.

You will find the sign up box at the bottom of our website homepage at fresh-n-local.co.uk, or alternatively ask to join the Stroud farmers’ market Facebook page, which has weekly posts to keep you abreast of what’s happening.
