THE Rev William Meiklejohn, who served Church of Scotland congregations at Roseneath, Tulliallan, and Inverallochy has died at the age of 83. A memorial service was held last week at Tulliallan Parish Church in Fife where he was minister for 30 years.

His last charge was at Roseneath in Dunbartonshire from 1972 until 1978. In his retiral he wrote a history of the kirk at Roseneath. Mr Meiklejon lived latterly in Linlithgow and, to the end, he pursued his interests as a scholar, researching papers on Scottish history at the National Library of Scotland and at Register House in Edinburgh.

He was ordained to his first charge at Inverallochy. Aberdeenshire, in 1938 and subsequently served with the Church of Scotland Huts

and Canteens.

In 1942 he accepted a call to Tulliallan where he conducted a distinguished ministry and was also recognised as a local historian. He served as chaplain to students at the nearby Scottish Police College at Tulliallan Castle.

He took a particular interest in work with young people through the local Boys' Brigade Company and youth clubs. He was a native of Wick and was dux medallist at the local high school. He graduated MA and BD from Edinburgh University.
