THE Paris bourse has decided to join the common European stock market proposed by the London and Frankfurt stock exchanges, writes Christopher Sims.

When this was first announced Paris was upset at being left out and said it would try to establish a grouping with other exchanges. However, this came to nothing, and Madrid, Milan and Amsterdam have also expressed interest in joining. Paris yesterday proposed a meeting of all nine major European bourses to get the ball rolling for a single market in leading stocks.

''We're delighted this is all happening,'' a London Stock Exchange official said. ''We have said all along that we would welcome participation of all other exchanges.''
