A 93-year-old woman was rescued after her bed caught fire early yesterday. Miss Elspeth MacLean was asleep in a first-floor bedroom in her cottage at Lewiston, Drumnadrochit, when a fault is believed to have developed in her electric blanket. Her sister, Margaret Swann, 80, who was visiting, raised the alarm. Two firemen wearing breathing apparatus broke into the cottage and carried the women to safety. Miss MacLean was taken to hospital in Inverness for treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation. Her sister was uninjured.
