FOCUS PICTURE THIS

THE picture archive of The Herald and its sister paper the Evening Times dates back to the turn of the twentieth century.

They were joined in 1915 by The Bulletin, which after its amalgamation with the Scots Pictorial, provided a popular newspaperwith a strong emphasis on photography.

Since then the archive has flourished and now boasts an estimated six million prints. A veritable family album for JockTamson's bairns, it records all aspects of life in Scotland over the past 100 years. From bleak foggy winters;

aerial pictures of Glasgow; the famous Hollywood stars who visited Scotland; football fans; and the humour of everyday life.

Regular readers of Flashbackwill be familiarwith a small part of this unique resource, but space limits us to no more than half a dozen images each week. However, from next weekend and for the following three months, more than 100 of these great images will be on show in an exhibition at the Mitchell Library, North Street, Glasgow.

Today and for the next two weeks, we will be offering a brief glimpse at a small selection of the magnificent photographs on display. Picture This will run from November 25 to February 26.
