The Harrow Times has asked each parliamentary candidate to list five reasons why they should become MP for Harrow East at the general election on May 7.

Here Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition's Nana Asante explains why you should vote for them.

1) I am a passionate community activist, who goes the extra mile to deal with issues facing residents and will be a powerful advocate for Harrow East.

2) I have extensive experience of serving people, with more than 25 years in the voluntary sector, was a councillor for 12 years – including four in Queensbury ward and eight in Edgware – and was also the Deputy Mayor two years ago and Mayor last year.

3) I am a Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate and understand that there is an alternative to cuts and austerity. I believe people should come before profit especially when it comes to essential services such as health, education, housing, transport and utilities. I also understand issues facing working families as I have four children and one grandchild.

4) I know Harrow East well and have lived in the constituency for more than 20 years, with my children attending Stanburn School, Salvatorian College, Park High School and St Dominic’s 6th Form College. I also attend Church in Harrow East and am involved in Church community life, including the Girls' Brigade.

5) Finally, I chair Harrow Fairtrade Campaign, which is about trade justice and under my leadership, Harrow achieved Fairtrade Borough status in 2014.
