November 10.

I was at some pains, and attracted some flak, during the General

Election to persuade people to vote for Jim Wallace on the grounds that

he was the most likely Opposition candidate to win the seat.

I need not have bothered; if the Tory, who was always the likely

runner-up, had got in then the votes in the House on November 4 would

have been just the same.

Mr Wallace will have to work very hard to retrieve my independent vote

next time round.
