I am sure I was not the only one to appreciate the irony of Alasdair

Campbell's letter (October 30). While he suggests the miners should

celebrate redundancy and their removal from the physical dangers of coal

mining, on the next page your columnist John Warden writes about

''Suicide: hidden hazard that stalks the unemployed''.

The point should be emphasised: unemployment is a killer, and not only

the miners are doomed.
