THE Free Church Asssembly yesterday said farewell to two ministers who

were setting out for war-torn Bosnia .

The Rev. Bill Scott of Dumfries and the Rev John Gillies of Partick

Highland Free Church, Glasgow, are driving across Europe to Mostar next

week with a truck load of food, medicines and valuable medical equipment

donated by Free Church congregations and other well wishers. Joining

them will be Calum Morrison an elder from Inverness Presbytery who will

supply the transport and assist the ministers with the driving.

Mr Scott who has been on missions to Eastern Europe many times said

one of the most vital donations had been a large supply of walking

sticks to aid the war-wounded who had lost limbs.

Mr Gillies said it was his first mission to Bosnia. He wryly said,

while he might be apprehensive of going into a war situation, it might

not be as fearful as some of the experiences he had in ''ice-cream''

wars while delivering ice-cream products throughout Scotland in his

student days.

He said there was a small net-work of Christians in Eastern Europe who

would be directing the aid supplies to where they were most needed.

The Free Church Assembly in Edinburgh ended yesterday with a tribute

to the Moderator, the Rev Principal Clement Graham who had conducted the

assembly proceedings with ''warmth , wit and humour''.
