THE Forum Car Park in Cirencester will reopen in April but will be completely closed for two days.

The car park has been shut since February 16 for refurbishment work but will open again on April 21, according to a spokesman from Cotswold District Council (CDC).

However, the contractors, Griffiths, plan to close the car park all day on Sunday, April 19 and Monday, April 20.

The car park will be closed for “safety reasons” while the final work is carried out on-site.

Sunday and Monday were chosen as the two least busy days of the week.

There will now be space for 191 cars, including 12 disabled spaces.

Other changes include a relocated entrance, better disabled access, an improved layout, better water drainage, and an “enhancement of visual appearance”.

Claire Locke, Head of Environmental Services at CDC, said: “I would like to thank motorists for their patience during the Forum Car Park refurbishment and I am sure that they will be pleased to know that the completion date is not far away.

“We knew that there would be an increase in demand for parking spaces in the town as a result of the Forum work, but daily surveys have shown that there are normally spaces available, especially in the Brewery and Waterloo car parks.

“I should also remind motorists that they can use an additional 140 car parking spaces free of charge on Saturdays and Sundays at the council’s Trinity Road headquarters (post code GL7 1PX) - and I was very pleased to hear that St James  Place (post code GL7 1FP ) are also now offering free weekend parking at their site.”
