THE three Scottish police staff associations are supporting an
amendment to the Police and Magistrates' Courts Bill, which receives its
third reading in the Lords today, which would mean chief constables
could appoint chief superintendents or chief inspectors as they saw fit.
The Government wants to abolish those ranks and that of deputy chief
constable, in line with the recommendation of the Sheehy Report.
