AROUND 100 textile jobs in Ayrshire could be at risk, local MP George

Foulkes claimed yesterday.

He was speaking in the wake of rumours about the future of Kyle

Knitwear, of Catrine, a subsidiary of the Aberdeen-based Richard group.

Mr Foulkes claimed that 30 members of staff were given notice of

redundancy last week.

He and Councillor David Sneller, leader of Cumnock and Doon Valley

District Council, hope to meet Mr Ray Dinsdale, managing director of the

parent company, at the plant tomorrow.

The MP said he had understood Kyle Knitwear was on the market, but

added: ''Despite reports that up to 30 potential buyers were interested

in a takeover, it seems the intention now is simply to close the

factory.''

Mr Sneller said the council hoped to persuade the parent company to

keep the plant open.
