MEN are more worried about pensions than their health as they grow older.

Almost a third of men in a national survey said their biggest fear as they aged was a low income.

One in eight worried about prostate cancer and 7% about getting fat.

And baldness and impotence were far down on the worries list at 2% and 4% respectively.

Today the Prostate Cancer Charity, which funded the poll, said it showed a lack of awareness of the most common killer of men in the UK, claiming 10,000 lives each year.

Chief executive John Neate said: "We don't want men to panic about getting prostate cancer as they get older, but we do want far more to be aware of their risks of this disease."

The study was published to mark the launch of Prostate Cancer Awareness week.

Early treatment offers the best chance of cure, but symptoms like difficulty passing water or repeated toilet visits, are shared with other, less dangerous conditions.
