MP for the Cotswolds Geoffrey Clifton-Brown has denied claims that he broke rules with a post on his official parliamentary website.
A Standard reader, who asked not to be named, accused Mr Clifton-Brown of using the tax-payer funded website to attack members of Cirencester Town Council over their use of CCTV and to promote a Conservative for district elections.
MPs’ websites are funded by parliamentary allowances which cannot be spent on electioneering or for political gain.
Mr Clifton Brown was quick to refute the claims.
"As a Member of Parliament I received information from a reliable and knowledgeable source who conveyed to me serious safety concerns about the present CCTV system,” he said.
“As an MP it would have been negligent of me not to air those concerns. This was not a political attack but a legitimate and valid safety concern."
