A SENSORY garden has been created at a Cirencester school in memory of a Cirencester woman who left the school a legacy.

Jenny Witt regularly worked with youngsters at Stratton Primary School through Open the Book, a group from St Peter’s Church in Stratton, which tells Bible stories to youngsters.

When Mrs Witt died last year, she left £500 to the school and staff and her family thought it would be fitting to spend the cash on the garden, which was officially opened on March 27.

Jenny’s daughter, Liz Wilkinson, who attended the opening with her two children, who are pupils at the school. She said: “I think Mum would be very humble about it. I do not think she would believe it had been done in memory of her. I think she would be absolutely delighted.

“She just wanted the money to go to the school.

“She was always an active part of ithe school.”

Liz added that one of the reasons her mother had been so involved with the school was that her children and her grandchildren and children were pupils there.

Included in the garden are a variety of herbs and flowers such as fennel and rosemary and chocolate box.

Dr Sarah Woods, a school governor who worked with pupils to create the garden, said: “The whole idea of this is it is a reflective garden, it is reflecting what is going on in our lives.”
