AS I write the sun is shining and it’s really quite warm. Hallelujah.

This is just what the growers were hoping for as it’s that warm golden light that will bring the asparagus out and start those early strawberries and tomatoes turning red.

The forecast for the week is good so fingers crossed we will be seeing those much sought after crops very soon.

Strawberries are a few weeks away yet of course.

Trealy Farm Charcuterie will be featuring this Saturday and you should be aware that they will be away in a fortnight so this will be their only appearance in April.

Trealy Farm has been the driving force behind the British Charcuterie scene, proving to the world that British rare breed animals make unique and highly-rated charcuterie products.

Now in their seventh year they have won just about every food award going and yet continue to sell direct through farmers’ markets in the region.

Cor, I had a rhubarb (Over Farm) crumble over the weekend with Jess’ Ladies cream.

Fabulous.

The only slight grumble was I had to buy some butter elsewhere as Brinkworth Dairy were away and there was no butter at the market.

Thankfully Brinkworth returns this Saturday after a nice Easter break and I’m led to believe there will be plenty butter as well as their great Wiltshire loaf cheeses.

Second Saturday of the month favourites Stainswick Farm Rapeseed Oils will be in this week as well as Fair and Square Chocolate brownies.

Fair and square were awarded a Gold Award at the Fair Trade Food Awards in Bristol last month for their exemplary sourcing (and great product of course.) Their newest flavour is the Big Cat Brownie which is made using Stroud Brewery’s Big Cat organic stout.

Hmm sounds delicious doesn’t it?

I wonder how the two would go down together?

Well you can find out this Saturday as Stroud Brewery will also be at the market and will surely have some Big Cat stout available.

Brownie and stout – sounds like the precursor to a long afternoon nap doesn’t it?
